Timing is everything
sometimes
This is a bit of a revision on advice I’ve given in the past: often, querying authors ask ‘when is a good time to query? I’ve heard that August is dead.’ And I reassure that the best time to submit is when the manuscript is ready, or to time their nonfiction submission to a published article or piece of press they receive. In other words, to time the submission to the writer rather than the agent.
But as I returned from three days out of office to two full client manuscripts, two offers of representation on manuscripts I’d requested, and several requests for check-in calls, I am rethinking timing. Helpful links below the paywall!
