This has been the question I’ve been asked most often in private communication: how do you tell your agent that you’d like some aspect of your communication to change?
I’ve written before about asking your agent about communication style: for Sub Club, I wrote about what you should ask an agent before signing, and communication style can be a big part of that conversation and decision. How quickly will the agent respond to your emails? Do they (and do you) prefer phone calls instead? How quickly can they return this first round of edits? Are they more straight-forward all-business in their communication, or more friendly and chatty?
Of course, underlying all of this, you as the writer should know what you prefer in your communication style.
But maybe you didn’t ask many questions about communication before you signed, or something about the agent’s communication style has changed, and you would prefer to be communicated with differently.
You really do just need to talk to them about it.
