Here is everything I read “not for work” in the first quarter of 2025!
Here’s everything I read 2024.
I don’t rank the books but I tally how I read them.
“Not for work” = I don’t count books I read as research, books I read on submission, books I’m editing, books I skimmed for comps.
LADY MACBETH by Ava Reid - on my iPad, this was technically for the office book club but I am a fan of Reid’s work
THE MOST by Jessica Anthony - paperback taken from the office
THE SWIMMING-POOL LIBRARY by Alan Hollinghurst - ebook via library app
OWLISH by Dorothy Tse, trans. Natascha Bruce - purchased paperback from Fitzcarraldo
ANNE OF GREEN GABLES by L.M. Montgomery - audio via library, during a craft project
ALSO A POET: Frank O’Hara, My Father, and Me by Ada Calhoun - borrowed a galley from a friend
LITTLE BOSSES EVERYWHERE: How the Pyramid Scheme Shaped America by Bridget Read - read a galley from an editor
PERFECTION by Vincenzo Latronica trans. Sophie Hughes - purchased paperback from Fitzcarraldo
ON THE CALCULATION OF VOLUME I by Solvej Balle trans. Barbara Haveland - bought paperback
BITTER WATER OPERA by Nicolette Polek - borrowed from a friend
RUTH by Kate Riley - borrowed galley from colleague, can’t recommend this highly enough
ON THE CALCULATION OF VOLUME II by Solvej Balle trans. Barbara Haveland - bought paperback. I’m a fan!
THE SHIPPING NEWS by Annie Proulx - borrowed from a friend
THE RIVER HAS ROOTS by Amal El-Mohtar - bought hardcover
Plus a perhaps embarrassing number of half-read books that I do want to finish…
Thanks for reading! What are you reading now?
This week’s paid post: “What to do while your book is on submission to agents”
Two weeks ago: “Working with film agents”
I’ve started my first Angela Carter. Heroes and Villains. Unsure what to make of it so far…
Are you going to keep going through the Anne of Green Gables series? I’m on volume 4 (Windy Willows, reading it with my daughter) and am really enjoying it. Planning on writing something about it in the near future.
